  • Maxine Mae Lazar, 83, of Streamwood, formerly of Geneseo, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, in Streamwood, where she had relocated to be with her daughter, Ann. Funeral services celebrating her life were held Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Ltd. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held two prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be left to Abilities Plus in Kewanee or The Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Barrington.
    She was the daughter of Joseph and Glenna Rieker. She married the late Alexander Lazar. She was a registered nurse who worked in the maternity area helping thousands of children at Hammond-Henry Hospital for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990.
    Survivors include one daughter, Ann Marie (Dr. John) Sterczek of Streamwood; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Alyssa Sterczek; three sisters, Joyce (the late Verle) Wathen of Overland Park, Kan., Shirley (the late John) Lilley of Princeton and Joanne (Jim) Schertz of Tiskilwa; one brother, Gary (Sandy) Rieker of Princeton; and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sandra Rieker and two brothers-in-law, Verle Wathen and John Lilley.
