Louise M. Riley, 85, of Geneseo, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Ottawa Pavilion, Ottawa. A funeral Mass celebrating her life was held Monday, Feb. 11 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. A visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 10 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services Ltd., Geneseo, where a rosary was recited. Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society or Geneseo Food Pantry.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1927, in Moline, the daughter of Meadard and Bertha (Timmerman) Boeckaert. She graduated from St. Mary’s School, Moline, in 1945 and St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1947. She married Charles R. Riley on Aug. 18, 1951, in Moline. He died in 2002. She spent many years working as a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Village in Geneseo, Hillcrest Home in Geneseo and St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Lacon. She was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and Rock Island Family Campers. She enjoyed her exercise group at the community center, camping, knitting, crocheting and reading.
Survivors include five sons, Thomas Riley of Sante Fe, N.M., Joseph (Susan) Riley of East Moline, Michael Riley of Glendale, Ariz., Pete (Deb) Riley of Peoria and Robert (Jolanda) Riley of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Peggy (Ron) Renz of Utica; Mary B. Riley and Mike Genthner of Ashfield, Mass. and Barbara (Robert) Budnik of Palmer, Alaska; 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; and her sister, Mary VanLanduyt.
