  • Mabel K. Buysse, 92, of Atkinson, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Atkinson. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson. A visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 28 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson, where a rosary was recited. Memorials may be left to St. Anthony’s Church or Abilities Plus.
    She was born on Nov. 10, 1920, in Loraine Township (Prophetstown), the daughter of Lyman and Wilma (Wildman) Kemmis. She was a 1937 graduate of Geneseo High School. She married Lester H. Buysse on Feb. 22, 1941, in Atkinson. He died in 1991. Mabel farmed with her husband for many years and also worked as a legal secretary for the Henry Waterman Law Office in Geneseo.
    She belonged to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Atkinson and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was a member of the Atkinson Women’s Club and a former member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, shopping and spending time with her family.
    Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (Keith) Fecteau of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; two sons, James (Mary Jane “Jill”) Buysse of Riverside, Calif. and Joe (Jill) Buysse of Prophetstown; six grandchildren, Brooke (Brad) Evans, Heather Yates, Josh (Lauren) Buysse, Jeremy Buysse, Nick (Elena) Fecteau and Blake (Ashley) Fecteau; five great grandchildren, Christian Buysse; Joseph and Ave Evans; Savana Yates and Graham Buysse; and one sister, Lenora Pritchard of Geneseo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Lyle and Frank “Arkie” Kemmis.
