After getting off to a slow start in its season finale, the Geneseo sophomore boys’ basketball team battled back to steal the conference win at home over Dixon, 46-45 Feb. 22.
The Dukes jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the first quarter, and took the 21-14 advantage into the half. Geneseo scored six in the second quarter, while Dixon was held to two.
Geneseo responded in the third quarter as the Leafs knocked down 19 points and held Dixon to eight to gain control of the game, 33-29. In the fourth quarter, Dixon outscored Geneseo by three, 16-13, but the Leafs were able to hang on for the win.
Greg Rusk paced the Leafs with 21 points as he drained two shots from beyond the arc, seven field goals and a free throw.
Drew Himmelman raked in 17 points of his own off of eight shots from the field and a free throw; while Adam Lavine added four on two field goals.
Tyler Mackey and Logan Lanphere finished the game with two points, both off a field goal.
The sophomores finish the season at 12-10 overall and 5-5 in the conference.
