Shirley J. Croegaert, 81, of Annawan, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Medical Center of Georgia in Macon, Ga. A funeral service celebrating her life was held Wednesday, March 6 at the Annawan Community United Methodist Church, Annawan. The Rev. Dan Wright officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee. A visitation was held Tuesday, March 5 at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Atkinson. Memorials may be directed to the Shirley Croegaert Memorial Fund.
She was born on March 15, 1931, in Annawan, the daughter of George and Pearl (Price) Thompson. She married O.H. “Red” Croegaert on Oct. 9, 1948, in Annawan. He died in 2000. Shirley drove a school bus for the Annawan School District for 30 years. She was a member of the Annawan Community United Methodist Church. She enjoyed yard work and gardening. She loved working in the flower bed and did so until her health no longer permitted.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Berlin) Campbell of Molena, Ga. and Lisa (Tim) Despain of Colona; three grandchildren, Melissa Matheny, Matthew Despain and Katelyn Despain; and three great grandchildren, Ethan, Alexus and Jacee Matheny. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.H. “Red” Croegaert; two brothers and one sister.
