Dennis “D.J.” Jaros, 69, of Port Byron, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Services were held Friday, March 1 at Zion Lutheran Church, East Moline. Burial was in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. A visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 28 at Gibson-Bode Funereal Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1943, in Chicago, the son of Jack and Doris (Phillips) Hickson. He married Raeleen Gerlach on Jan. 12, 1974, in Port Byron. He drove truck and also worked as an auto mechanic. He loved to ride his motorcycle and to fly his plane. He belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Survivors include his wife, Raeleen Jaros of Port Byron; his children, Darren Jaros of Geneseo and Patricia (Nathan) Zahringer of Moline; two grandchildren, Adrianna and Myles Zahringer; brothers, Al Jaros, John (Lori) Hickson, Thomas Hickson, Joe (Darlene) Hickson, David Hickson and sisters, Gail (Skip) Anderson and Cathy (Jim) Bladel. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Calvin Jaros; a sister, Cynthia Jaros and a brother, Steve Hickson.
