Martin L. “Marty” Angevine, 94, of Geneseo died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at WoodRidge Assisted Living Facility where he had been residing. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18 at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. The Rev. Bruce Bergthold will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, March 18 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of Geneseo.
Marty was born on Sept. 2, 1918, in Osco Township, the son of Lock and Florence (Hornecker) Angevine. He married Odetta Wayne on June 28, 1942, in Geneseo. She died in 1999. Marty farmed in Osco Township all his life. He owned and operated The Geneseo Cattle Co., and also bought hogs for Swift and Co. of Chicago. He was a director and chairman of the Board of The State Bank of Osco for 37 years, as well as a director and founder of the Illini Beef Packers.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Geneseo, Stewart Lodge No. 92 and the Mohammaed Shrine Temple in Peoria. He also was a Fourth Ward Alderman in the 1960s in Geneseo. Marty enjoyed baseball and pro football. He raced harness horses and enjoyed fishing in Canada.
Survivors include one daughter, Lynne Wilder of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one son-in-law and spouse, Charles (Laura) Palmer; one granddaughter, Ashley (Matt) Lindsay of Ft. Lauderdale; one grandson, Patrick (Paula) Wilder of Eldridge, Iowa; and five great grandchildren, Luke, Griffin and Claire Wilder and Charlie and Case Lindsay. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Odetta; his daughter, Karen Palmer; and his brother, Lyle Angevine.
