James P. “Jim” Howell, 54, of Geneseo, died unexpectedly at his home Friday, March 8, 2013. A private graveside service was held Wednesday, March 13 at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee officiated. A visitation was held Tuesday, March 12 at Vandemore Funeral Homes Ltd., Geneseo. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be left to the Jamey Howell Memorial Fund.
He was born on Jan. 22, 1959, in Rock Island, the son of James R. and Diane (Hawley) Howell. He was a graduate of Riverdale High School. He married Denise M. Rakestraw on Nov. 22, 1980, in Sheffield. He currently was the owner and operator of Crown Satellite, Geneseo, which he founded 32 years ago. Jim loved spending time with his family, enjoyed traveling and loved his dog, Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Denise; two daughters, Mandy Howell and fiance, Brandon Heller of Denver, Colo. and Kerry (Shea) Jones of Bradenton, Fla.; one son, Ryan Howell of Perth, Australia; one sister, Jennifer White of Springfield and “special mom” Shirley Lukins of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jamey Howell; one brother, Jon; and “special dad” James Lukins.
