Dorothy M. Seys, 95, of rural Coal Valley, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus, Davenport, Iowa, surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 11 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colona. The Rev. Duane Jack officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. A visitation was held Sunday, March 10 at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo where a prayer service was held. Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy Seys Memorial Fund.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1917, in Lee County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Pearl (Hughes) Carroll. She married Joseph M. Seys on July 6, 1940, at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. He died in 2007. She was a partner with her husband, Joe, on the family farm and lived there until her death. She also worked as a librarian at the Colona Twin Rivers Library. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colona and St. Martha’s Altar and Rosary Society. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.
Survivors include her children, Joann (Bill) Dickey of Orion, Sharon (Jim) Holke of Geneseo, John (Pat) Seys of Coal Valley, Jean (Mark) Sottos of Coal Valley and Nancy (Roger) Carlson of Osco; 23 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, two brothers, and one great-granddaughter.
