Vivian P. Stocking, 97, of Geneseo, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating her life were Tuesday, March 12 at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Burial was in Elm Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Princeton. A visitation was held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to First United Methodist Church.
She was born on June 8, 1915, in Henry, the daughter of Samuel and Elsie (Spriggle) Morris. She married John Stocking on June 5, 1937, in Dixon. He died in 1974. She was a housekeeper for 10 years for the late Dr. Larsen in Annawan. Later, she was employed in the housekeeping department of Hammond-Henry Hospital, retiring in 1989. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and was a very talented embroiderer. She also enjoyed walking. She walked many miles in Geneseo and continued to walk laps at WoodRidge, where she had been residing.
Survivors include one daughter, Elsie Gleason of Geneseo; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Russell Morris of Tiskilwa and Blake Morris of Princeton. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, John Edward Stocking in 2008; four sisters and one brother.
