Seven soldiers were killed and eight more were injured. A military official told CNN that the blast was caused by a 60-mm round detonating inside a mortar tube.

Nearly 60 people were killed by car and suicide bombs in Baghdad on the 10th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Reuters reports. The attacks took place in Shiite Muslim areas of the city. No group has claimed reesponsibility for the attacks, but Sunni Islam extremists linked to al Qaeda have been regaining ground in the country, especially now that neighboring Syria has become unstable.
