Phillip R. Smith, 65, of Rogersville, Tenn., died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Tennova Healthcare, Knoxville, Tenn. Funeral services were held March 17 at Creech Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Moore officiated and music was provided by Rachel Beaupry. Graveside services were held Monday, March 18 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City, Tenn., where full military honors were given. A visitation was held Sunday, March 17 at Creech Funeral Home.
He was born on Oct. 13, 1947, in Middlesboro, Ky., the son of the late William Smith and Thelma Sullivan. He was a Vietnam veteran, past commander and life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1138 in Monroe, Mich.
Survivors include his life partner, Arlena Kay Wolfenbarger; son, Phillip R. (Melissa) Smith of Monroe; daughter, Jaclyn (Jeremy) Shipe of Monroe; son, Phillip R. (Nicole) Smith Jr. of Geneseo; son, Jonathan (Jennifer) Smith of Geneseo; sister, Mrs. Larry (Sherry) Barnett; sister, Mrs. John (Tammy) Pierce; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Smith; and son, Sgt. First Class David R. Smith.
