In the high-powered NIB 12 Indoor Conference Invite March 16 in Sterling, the Geneseo boys’ track and field team notched runner-up honors behind Kaneland.
“We did great,” said head coach Don Fredericks. “Last year we took seventh. We are extremely pleased with where we are. We didn’t load any kids up and didn’t maximize our lineup so with that being said, there are a lot of things to be excited about.”
Leading the way for Geneseo was Alex Platz and Jay Wilson going one-two in the pole vault. Platz took first as he cleared 13-3 and Wilson came in second at 12-9.
Josh Beard grabbed a first-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 42-9; while AJ Marmion placed first in the shot put with a throw of 50-6.
Geneseo’s 4x800-meter relay of David Chenoweth, Mitchell Lawson, Mitchell Lamb and Jordan Starkey took home first as they crossed the finish line in 8 minutes and 27.65 seconds.
“Leading the charge was Josh Beard with the third farthest sophomore jump in the triple jump, AJ Marmion won the shot put and continues to be undefeated on the season, and Alex Platz did a great job in the pole vault and is still undefeated,” said Fredericks. “The 4x800-m relay ran awesome and all four runners ran really tough races.”
Ethan Reschke placed third for the Leafs in the 400-m dash with a time of 53.71; while the 4x200-m relay of Chase Cahalan, Luke Snyder, Jeremy Harper and Justin Seeley took fourth in 1:38.44.
