Helen K. Kretschmar Biasella, 93, a resident of Bickford Cottage, Moline, died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Bickford Cottage. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula will officiate. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5 at Homewood Memorial Gardens, Homewood. Memorials may be left to Heartland Hospice or a charity of donor’s choice in Helen’s name. Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born on March 5, 1920, in Chicago Heights, the daughter of Ralph and Carrie (Highland) Ferguson. She was a graduate of Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. She married Howard E. Kretschmar on April 19, 1942. He died on Dec. 30, 1967. In 1979, she married Hugo Biasella of Chicago Heights. He died in 1981. From 1970 to 2011, she resided in Florida. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Spring Hill, Fla., was active in the Sons of Norway organization, and was on the committee that led to the construction of a new YMCA building in Spring Hill. She was dedicated to life-long education and enjoyed international travel.
Survivors include three sons, David (Maria) Kretschmar of Spring Hill, Tim (Susan) Kretschmar of Geneseo and Tom (Leigh Ann) Kretschmar of Spring, Texas; six grandchildren, Katie (Gareth) James of Vancouver, British Columbia; Joseph Kretschmar of Spring Hill; Ross (Jill) Kretschmar of Minneapolis, Minn.; Paul (Sarah) Kretschmar of Moline; Kelly Kretschmar of Houston, Texas; and Andrew (Erin) Kretschmar of Austin, Texas; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Agnes Herbst of Fletcher, N.C.
