  • Lady Leafs capture a pair of shut out wins

  • The Geneseo girls' soccer team nabbed two conference victories this past week as the Lady Leafs knocked off Streator and Ottawa.
    Geneseo vs. Streator
    Geneseo was no match for host Streator April 16 as the Lady Leafs dominated the Bulldogs in an 8-0 victory.
    Mallory Wirth knocked in the first goal of the game on the assist from Caitlin Akers; while Hannah Pace punched in Geneseo's second goal, unassisted, to put Geneseo up 2-0 at the half.
    The Lady Leafs started their second-half attack with a goal from Akers on the assist from Rachel Morton; followed by an unassisted goal from Wirth for the 4-0 advantage.
    Heather Setser added a goal on the assist from Rachel Smith; while Wirth completed the hat trick with a goal on the assist from Akers for the 6-0 lead.
    Cheyenne VanQuakebeke scored another Geneseo goal on the assist from Smith; while Lauren Coulter knocked in the final goal of the contest, unassisted.
    Geneseo finished the game with 25 shots on goal and Darci Dietrich had three saves in the net. Streator took only three shots on goal.
    Geneseo vs. Ottawa
    The Lady Leafs jumped out to an early lead on the visiting Ottawa Pirates April 11 and never looked back on their way to a 6-0 conference victory.
    Kylie Lembke got things started for Geneseo with a goal at the 2 minute-mark on the assist from Pace. Pace got her turn 2 minutes later as she punched in a goal on the assist from Setser for the 2-0 Geneseo lead.
    Wirth knocked in the Lady Leafs' third goal of the half on the assist from Morton; while Kaylie Piekos scored an unassisted goal at 22:00 to put Geneseo up 4-0 at the half.
    After the break, Pace booted in a goal, unassisted, at 44:00; followed by Lembke with another goal on the assist from Akers at 46:00 to put the game out of reach.
    Geneseo finished the game with 22 shots on goal and Dietrich had zero saves in the net. Ottawa took no shots on goal and had 16 saves.
    Geneseo (7-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the NIB 12) will next host Bettendorf at 4:30 p.m. April 22.
