  • A scale version of the Vietnam Memorial Wall will be on display in Geneseo in August.
The American Veterans Traveling Tribute will visit Geneseo Aug. 7 through 11 with an 80 percent scale version of the Washington, D.C. monument.
The 360-foot wall contains every single name etched on the original.
The wall's display in Geneseo is sponsored by the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083 and its auxiliary as well as the Geneseo Foundation.
The wall will arrive in Geneseo on the afternoon of Aug. 7. It will be escorted by members of the Patriot Guard.
The wall will be set up in the city park on Aug. 8 and will be open to the public starting at noon. It will remain open for free viewing until 3 p.m. on Aug. 11.
A special opening ceremony will start at 7 p.m. Aug. 8. There will be an ice-cream social held in conjunction with the ceremony.
Events have been planned for each day the wall is in Geneseo.
Aug. 10 will feature a "Welcome Home Vietnam Veteran" parade followed by a program in the park bandshell and a pork chop dinner. Vietnam veterans will receive a free lunch. All Vietnam veterans are invited to walk or ride in the parade and area businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate.
A non-denominational church service and memorial service honoring Geneseo service men killed in Vietnam will be Aug. 11.
Organizers will host a steak sandwich and grilled tenderloin dinner in the park on June 15 following the Music Festival Parade to help raise funds for the wall's visit.
