Darlene L. Johnson, 84, of Geneseo, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating her life was held Wednesday, May 8 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Humane Society.
She was born on July 15, 1928, in Atkinson, the daughter of Ferdinand and Sophie (Mariman) Floming. She was a graduate of Atkinson High School. She married Kenneth R. Johnson on June 7, 1973, in Cambridge. He died in 2006. She was a bank teller at the Atkinson Trust and Savings Bank for 16 years. She belonged to St. Malachy’s Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose. She loved animals, crocheting, puzzles, cross stitching and all crafts.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Benoodt of Geneseo; one granddaughter, Tracy (Greg) Wenkman of Naples, Fla.; step daughter, Kay (Rich) Bennett of Washington, Iowa; step daughter-in-law, Judy Johnson of Kewanee; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and four step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Carol Edward and Lorraine Powell; brother, Roger Floming; and one step son, Roger Johnson.
