Marie S. Vetter, 74, of Hooppole, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20 at Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole. The Rev. Dan Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Hooppole Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at Garland Funeral Home, Walnut. A memorial has been established in her memory.
She was born on Nov. 27, 1938, in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Sternal) Farganus. She married Kenneth Vetter on Aug. 20, 1976, in Decatur. He died on June 5, 2002. She was a homemaker and was a member and the treasurer at Royal Neighbors. She loved to play dominoes with her friends.
Survivors include three sons, Tony Sommers of Beardstown, Alan (Cheryl Ince) Sommers of Hooppole and Terry (Catherine) Sommers of Hooppole; one stepdaughter, Susan Stontz of Kewanee; stepson, Dennis (Alice) Vetter of Sterling; seven grandchildren, three great grandsons; six step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Farganus of Moline; one sister, Dorothy Hayes of Willowbrook and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Joe.
