The public is invited to a Memorial Day Ceremony in Geneseo's City Park on May 27.
The event will start at 9:30 a.m. with patriotic music performed by Geneseo Middle School 7th and 8th grade band members.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Army Ranger and 2006 Geneseo graduate Staff Sgt. Michael Laleman will be the keynote speaker.
The VFW firing squad and color guard, under the direction of Bob DeBoever, will give the salute, followed by Taps and its echo played by Julia Buzard and Gregg Neuleib.
The Rev. Dr. Christopher Bushre of St. John's Lutheran Church will give the invocation and benediction.
Traditional Memorial Day readings will be given by Daniel Skelton, Courtney Emerick and Kate Whiteman.
Music also will be provided by a high school ensemble. Student performers will include: Michael Daniels, Dugan Kuffel, Hunter Kuffel, Dan Sears, Chas Young and Ryan Zum Mallen. They will be accompanied by Pam Edwards.
Weather permitting, Geneseo's Memorial Day ceremony will feature the "Aisle of Flags." The nearly 700 American flags will be joined by 20 new flags.
The new flags will represent veterans: Marvin "Mike" Asay, Charles Baum, Dr. Hayden DeDecker, Earl DeFauw, Robert Hartman, Verneil Hohenboken, Henry Humbard, George Jolly, Richard McNaught, Richard Pratt, Bryan Rusk, William "Bill" Wirth, Vernon Hollatz, Robert Klemm, Kenneth "Jack" Lamb, Laurell Rahn, Leevon Ritter, Steven Scales, Stanley Speller and Wallace Wiedenhoeft.
Volunteers are needed to help raise the flags at 6 a.m. in the city park. A breakfast for volunteers will be served at the VFW following the flag raising.
The "Aisle of Flags" will come down at 2:30 p.m. on Memorial Day. Volunteers are needed to help remove the flags.
In case of rain, the Memorial Day program will be moved to First Lutheran Church.
