  • Marjorie J. VanHyfte, 89, Annawan, died with the grace and dignity she always displayed in life, with her son, Rodger and his partner, James, by her side Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Unity Trinity, Rock Island. A funeral Mass celebrating her life was held Tuesday, May 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan. The Rev. Mark Miller officiated. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson. A visitation was held Monday, May 20 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson, where a rosary was recited. Memorials may be left to the Marjorie VanHyfte Memorial Fund.
    She was born on June 29, 1923, in Annawan, the daughter of Henry and Augusta (Mariman) DeGerengel. She married Marvin F. VanHyfte. He died in 1992. She had been a sales associate for 28 years at Four Seasons in downtown Geneseo. She also, along with her husband, Marvin, farmed in rural Annawan for many years and was proud to still be living on the family farm. She also worked many years at Guild’s Drug Store in Annawan.
    She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan, as well as the Altar and Rosary Society. She also taught CCD classes at Sacred Heart. She enjoyed her violets, doing housekeeping, her clock collection, raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. Recently, she also enjoyed traveling.
    Survivors include one son, Rodger VanHyfte and his partner, James Turilli of East Moline; two daughters, Barbara VanHyfte of Moline and Bernadine VanHyfte and her husband, Chuck Schrader of Geneseo; and three grandchildren, Christine VanHyfte, Cynthia VanHyfte and Noah Schrader. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; and one son, Robert VanHyfte.
