  • Dale A. Holland, 70, of rural Prophetstown, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Saturday, May 25 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. The Rev. Michael McBride officiated. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Atkinson. A visitation was held prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Henry County Humane Society-Geneseo Branch.
    He was born on Oct. 22, 1942, in Morrison, the son of Chester and Mildred (Dorathy) Holland. He was a 1960 graduate of Erie High School. He married Darlene J. Sammons on Oct. 5, 1963, in Erie. Dale worked for Moline Consumers, now River Stone, for 30 years at the Cleveland Quarry as a heavy equipment master mechanic. He was a lifetime member of the IUOE Union Local 150, a NRA Lifetime Master (SBR), member of the Morrison Sportsmen's Club, and a former member of the Tri-City Trailriders.
    Survivors include his wife, Darlene; two daughters, Amy (Morey) Diericks of Prophetstown and Stacey Holland and Eric Himes of Shoreline, Wash.; grandchildren, Rachael, Brandon and Olivia Diericks and Otto Himes; two brothers, Neil (Barbara) Holland of Oregon and Rodney Holland of Kewanee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Lyle Hawk.
