Steven J. "Bone" Haverback, 60, of Annawan, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at his home after a four-year battle with cancer. A funeral Mass celebrating Steven's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at Sacred Heart Church, Annawan. The Rev. Mark Miller will celebrate. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Annawan. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 21 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Memorials may be left to Annawan/Alba Fire Rescue or Illinois Cancer Care.
He was born on July 6, 1952, in Kewanee, the son of Bill and Helen (VanDeKeere) Haverback. He was a 1970 graduate of Annawan High School. Steve worked for Hatzer and Nordstrom as a farmhand for 21 years. Bone enjoyed playing rolle bolle.
Survivors include his significant other, Debi Gradert of Annawan; brother, Marvin (Barb) Haverback of Annawan; two sisters, Doris (Tom) Baele of Annawan and Sister Betty Jean Haverback of Immaculate Conception Convent, Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
