Food and music will be central to Geneseo's July 4th celebration.
The Maple City Band will perform its 24th annual Independence Day concert at 1 p.m. in the city park.
Geneseo Kiwanis Club members will serve their "Pork in the Park" meal starting at 11 a.m. The meal will include a choice of pork chop sandwich or pork burger.
In conjunction with Pork in the Park and the concert, members of the Maple City Band will host an ice cream social. Ice cream, cakes and pies will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The social serves as the band's primary fund-raiser.
The 1 p.m. concert will feature a number of patriotic selections including "National Emblem, "Hosts of Freedom, "America the Beautiful," "Liberty Fanfare," "A Nation's Prayer," "An American Spectacular," "Abide With Me," "The Message on the Rock" and "Parade of the Tall Ships."
All veterans and any current member of the military in attendance will be recognized during the band's performance of "Armed Forces Salute."
The concert will conclude with John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever."
Weather permitting, the Aisle of Flags will fly on July 4. Volunteers are needed to help set up the flags at 7 a.m. Coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served. The flags will be taken down following the Maple City Band concert.
The City of Geneseo will host a fireworks display at Richmond Hill Park starting at dusk on July 3. Rain date will be July 4. Funds for the fireworks are donated by area businesses and organizations.
