Allan Alvin Grant Gehn, 66, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Unity Point Health, Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory Ltd., Moline. A visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Per his wishes, cremation rites will follow and inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Allan’s wishes were for memorials to be made to his family for a fund to be established.
He was born on June 2, 1947, in Moline, the son of Alvin J.F. and Charlotte Ann (Fells) Gehn. He married Mary Moriarity on June 17, 1989, in Scott County, Iowa. Allan began working at Farmall and then for International Harvester. He later worked for JTPA and Family Resources. Currently, he was in Social Services for Families Inc. He took pride in his Native American Heritage and enjoyed giving presentations about the culture. When his children were young, Allan was a Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Moriarity-Gehn of Rock Island; children, Christina (Dave) Oskorep of West Dundee; Robert (Netta) Gehn of Moline; Eric (Diane) Gehn of Andalusia; Chad Gehn of Puyallup, Wash.; Heather (Bill) Broughton of Lundington, Mich.; Rachel (Shawn) Harris of Rock Island; Erin Gehn of Rock Island; and Jonathan Gehn of Rock Island; grandchildren, Ashley Gehn, Christopher VanSandt, Kaitlyn Gehn, Brandy Keller, Eleanor Oskorep, Lucas Oskorep, Abraham Broughton, Hazel Harris and Owen Harris; brother, Brad (Mary Jo) Gehn of Geneseo and 27 foster siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bruce Gehn.
