The "Ag in a Day" program is available to all teachers and educators. Workshops were held in two central locations,
Monsanto Agronomy Center in Monmouth and Black Hawk College, East Campus, Galva.
Teachers were invited to attend all courses, where they received free teaching materials, participated in hands-on activities, viewed Ag in the Classroom educational kits, and took field trips to areas of interest in order to learn more about agriculture. Continuing education credits were available at each workshop. An Ag in the Classroom kit was given away at each location.
At the Monmouth workshop, teachers had the opportunity to tour Monsanto and learn about Biotechnology and GMO's. They also participated in a GPS demonstration and learned about "Natural" gardening. The final tour of the day was a tour of Consolidated Grain & Barge - Twomey's Group river terminal near Oquawka, Illinois.
In Galva, teachers learned about the resources available from Illinois Ag in the Classroom, toured a local dairy farm, participated in a Farm Quest Ag Trivia game, and toured Sunnyfield Greenhouse.
The workshops were designed for Preschool - High School educators who wished to expand their curriculum to include topics related to agriculture – the world's food and fiber system. The workshops focused on how to integrate available resources and hands-on activities about agriculture into an existing classroom curriculum.
