It will be an evening of praise music in the Geneseo City Park. Volunteers with First United Methodist Church are hosting the first-annual "Praise Band Jam" starting at 5:30 p.m. July 21 in the city park.
Praise bands from Geneseo Life Church, Cambridge Methodist Church and Geneseo Evangelical Free Church, as well as the adult and youth bands from First United Methodist Church and Inkounter from Osco will perform.
Former First United Methodist Church worship leader Shaun Easton, who recently accepted a new position in Bloomington, will return to perform at the concert.
An ice cream social and pie auction will be held in conjunction with the Praise Band Jam. Proceeds from the social and auction will benefit Backpack Blessings and Helping Hands.
"We see it as friends and neighbors helping friends and neighbors," said organizer Glenn Kluge.
Helping Hands is a First United Methodist appliance and handyman ministry. Volunteers help with repair projects for the elderly and others in need. They also help distribute donated appliances to those in need.
Backpack Blessings is a program that provides food to children who live in "food insecure households" and need food to get them through weekends and breaks when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. On a weekly basis, volunteers pack food parcels which are discreetly distributed to children in need.
"The entire community is invited to spend the evening with us praising God through music and helping our
friends and neighbors,"
