  • Anita J. Schlenzen, 89, of Geneseo, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. A funeral service celebrating her life was held Tuesday, July 30 at Vandemore Funeral Homes Ltd., Geneseo. The Rev. Melva Graham England officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church or a favorite charity of donor’s choice.
    She was born on June 26, 1924, in Atkinson Township, the daughter of Lloyd and Pearl (Swanson) Sommers. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1942. She worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and Geneseo Municipal Utilities. She married David Schlenzen on Feb. 10, 1952, in Geneseo. He died in 2008. After her marriage, Anita farmed with her husband in Osco Township until 1964 when they purchased the Reynolds Elevator which they operated until 1986. They continued living in Reynolds until 2006 when they moved to Geneseo.
    Anita had been a member of Reynolds United Methodist Church as well as a member of the women’s and Susannah circles. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, crafts, needlework and reading.
    Survivors include her son, Ronald Schlenzen of Ottumwa, Iowa; a daughter, Bonnie Morgan, of Nanticoke, Pa.; a sister, Ethel (Sheldon) Schroeder of Atkinson; and three grandchildren, Terry and Darrin Morgan and Nicholas Schlenzen. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David.
