  • Evelyn May Young, 89, of Cambridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m....

  • Evelyn May Young, 89, of Cambridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to Good Samaritan Physical Therapy Room.
    She was born on April 4, 1924, in Eldridge, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Dora Flora (Clausen) Jens. She married Elon Young on Oct. 10, 1948, Geneseo. He died in 2009. Evelyn was a housewife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, The Munson Center Club, the Andover Neighborhood Club and the Henry County Porkettes. She gave many years of service to the Lutheran Women’s Mission League. She was a loving lady who took care of many people in need. She was famous for her angel food cakes and cream puffs. Evelyn and Elon hosted many Fourth of July and other special celebrations at the farm. An Illinois farm boy and an Iowa farm girl met on the dance floor and are now dancing in heaven together.
    Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Moriarity of Granger, Ind., and Julie (Andy) Schaser of Waukesha, Wis.; two sons, Craig (Sally) Young of New York, N.Y., and Mark (Jenny) Young of Geneseo; nine grandchildren, John (Hannah) Moriarity, Jane Moriarity (Ben Clayton), Dan (Merin) Barrett, Allison (Pat) Kerstein, Emma Schaser, Lydia Schaser, Callie Schaser, Chas Young and Warner Young; two great grandchildren, Jack Barrett and Miah Heffernan; one sister, Marge (Marvin) Riemers of Walcott, Iowa and one sister-in-law, Bea (Joe) DeGeeter. She was preceded in death by her husband; and brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Lola Jens.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carol Dielbeck for all her loving care.
