Mary M. Fuelling, 54, of Geneseo, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23 at First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Per her request, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service. Memorials may be left to the Mary Fuelling Memorial Fund.
She was born on May 18, 1959, in Chicago, the daughter of LeRoy and Gladys (Anderson) Swanson. She was a 1977 graduate of Geneseo High School and then attended the Lutheran School of Nursing where she receive an RN degree. She married Mark J. Fuelling on Aug. 4, 1979, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Mary’s career as a registered nurse started at Illini Hospital, Silvis and she then came to the Geneseo Family Medical office where she was a nurse starting with Dr. Parsons and then later for Dr. Kenney, Dr. Becker and most recently, Dr. Peterson.
Mary was a member of First Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She also was a member of the Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary. She participated in the Bell Choir at First Lutheran church and Maple City Band. Mary volunteered to be a parish nurse and enjoyed scrapbooking. Mary loved traveling, entertaining and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Mark; two sons, Matthew (Tricia) Fuelling of Geneseo and Michael (Abbey) Fuelling of Geneseo; four grandchildren, Hannah, Gretchen, Lucas and Kane; and her mother, Gladys Swanson of Geneseo. She was preceded in death by her father, LeRoy Swanson.
