Joy E. Sundeen, 78, of Geneseo, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at her home in the WoodRidge Supportive Living Residence, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating her life were held Tuesday, Aug. 20 at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held Monday, Aug. 19 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Library.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1934, in Geneseo, the daughter of Harry and Magda Helen (Gustafson) Cochran. She was a 1952 graduate of Geneseo High School. She marred Charles H. Sundeen on June 14, 1952, in Geneseo. He died in 2010. Joy worked at Hammond-Henry Hospital in medical records for several years, from which she retired. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Geneseo and enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was an award-winning Avon “lady.”
Survivors include three daughters, Megan Sundeen of Cambridge, Cheryl Sundeen of Carlisle and Julie (Royce) Green of New Boston; son, Jace Sundeen of Anderson, Ind.; six grandchildren, Jerry Charles (J.C.) Austin, John Austin, Ethan Sundeen, Evan Sundeen, Shane Adams and Kindra Adams; three sisters, Patricia Johnson of Geneseo, Rosetta Byers of Kewanee and Kathy (Mike) Higgins of Davenport, Iowa, and brother, Carl (Arlene) Cochran of Geneseo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
