Authorities have identified Jacob Grabbe, 21, as the man who died in today's tragic auto accident west of Galva.
Henry County Coroner Dave Johnson announced tonight that Grabbe, of Galva, died in the mishap which occurred about 1:07 p.m. today. Grabbe's name had not been released initially pending the notification of family.
Grabbe is a former Kewanee resident who was residing in Galva at the time of the accident.
Johnson said Grabbe was declared deceased at 2:19 p.m. An inquest will be held, but no autopsy, Johnson said. Arrangements are pending at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee.
Authorities still haven't released the name or condition of the person who was driving the semi truck which collided with Grabbe's vehicle. An investigation continues by the Henry County Sheriff's Office.
The mishap occurred about two or three miles west of Galva, near county road 1850 E. The accident was east of the Route 34 turnoff to Bishop Hill.
Authorities say Grabbe was driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo eastbound on Route 34 when his car collided with the westbound semi. Authorities did not say which, if either vehicle, crossed the center line.
Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Galva police, Galva and Bishop Hill fire fighters and Stark County Ambulance Service.
