Michael R. Claus, 70, of Cordova, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Aug. 26 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rapids City. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. A wake service was held Sunday, Aug. 25 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron and a visitation followed. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or St. John the Baptist Church.
He was born on March 7, 1943, in Moline, the son of Alois J. and Emilie (Lannoo) Claus. He graduated from United Township High School in 1961. He married Kathryn VanNorway on April 11, 1964, at St. Mary’s Church, Hampton. He worked as a welder for John Deere Harvester, retiring in 1997 after 33 years of service to the company. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church. He was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and family man.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; sons and their spouses, Steve (Sue) Claus of Loves Park, Mike (Jodie) Claus of Geneseo and Jeff (Tami) Claus of Cordova; eight grandchildren, Alex, Ken, Sawyer, Emily, Seth, Eric, Taylor and Sarah Claus; siblings, Mary Raymond of Moline; Elizabeth Heinzel of Milwaukee, Wis.; Donald Claus of Macon, Ga.; and Madeliene Parein of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary E. Claus at birth; sister, Caroline Claus and brothers, Lucian and Joseph Claus.
