  • Dorothy C. Lievens, 84, of Geneseo, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. A funeral service celebrating her life was held Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitations was held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to First United Methodist Church or the Geneseo Humane Society.
    She was born on Feb. 21, 1929, in Yorktown Township, rural Hooppole, the daughter of Reinhardt and Carrie (Porschke) Rahn. She was a 1947 graduate of Geneseo High School. She married Lawrence “Sam” Lievens on April 2, 1960, in Geneseo. He died on Feb. 20, 2000. Dorothy held several secretarial positions throughout her career, retiring in 1987 from Eagle Foods Warehouse, Milan.
    She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo and the Geneseo Women of the Moose Lodge No. 577. She enjoyed doing “word find” books, bingo, visiting the local casinos and, in her earlier years, going to auctions and flea markets. She was a ceramic and glass chicken collector, as well as other glass collectables.
    Survivors include her stepson and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathy Lievens of Hillsdale; sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws, Lucille and Kenneth Cathelyn, Eugene and Evelyn Lievens, Richard and Betty Lievens and Betty Lievens and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two half sisters; a half brother and a brother-in-law, Robert.
    The family would like to thank the staff at Geneseo Good Samaritan for the wonderful care they gave Dorothy throughout the years she was there.
