The Rev. Bruce Bergthold officiated. Burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery. A visitation was held prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the G.E.E.E. She was born on Jan. 3, 1921, in Quincy, Mass., the daughter of Theodore and Maude (Richardson) Smith. Through a scholarship, she was a proud graduate of Thayer Academy, Braintree, Mass., where she was raised. She went on to earn her nurse’s degree from Massachusetts’ General, Boston. Marie’s entire career was one of nursing, which she very much enjoyed; first at Massachusetts General Hospital, then in the Army, then onto Proctor Hospital, Peoria and finally at Moline Public Hospital from which she retired as head nurse.
In May 1947, Marie married Darold Lodge (deceased November 1991). They spent their married life living on his family farm near Geneseo. Marie’s greatest joy was flying with her husband in their private plane. They also enjoyed traveling but there was never enough time for all the traveling they would have liked to do.
She was a member of First Congregational Church, Geneseo and the Mission Committee of the church, the Geneseo Historical Association, the Henry County Home Extension, the Moline Public Retiree’s, the Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary and was a former member of Loraine Church for 44-and-a-half years.
Survivors include her brother, Richard (Noreen) Smith of Harrison, Maine; one nice; four nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews and eight great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Gelnna Barrett
