Jim Nelson, 70, of Hooppole, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30 at the Annawan Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Hooppole Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jim Nelson Memorial Fund.
He was born on April 1, 1943, in Geneseo, the son of James E. and Leora Isabel (Brown) Nelson. He married Janice Benkitis on Aug. 16, 1984, in Hooppole. She survives. He retired from Case IH, East Moline after 30 years. He also farmed in the Hooppole area. Jim was a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed tractors, hunting, gardening, garage sales, dogs, playing guitar, tinkering and motorcycles. He especially loved his family and helping young people.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; his children, Rick (Robin) Nelson, Mary Marchand, Rod Nelson, Joseph (Tina) Nelson, Jody (Jeff) Alls and Jonathan (Kathryn) Nelson; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
