David W. Maguire, 58, of Orion, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at First United Methodist Church, Monmouth. The Rev. Jon Sims will officiate. Burial will follow in Monmouth Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial may be directed to the David Maguire Memorial Fund. Vandemore Funeral Homes Ltd., Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1955, in Blue Island, the son of Richard E. and Eleanor H. (Holmdahl) Maguire. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1973 and went on to attend Monmouth College. He began his career with John Deere Harvester Works as a K-8 assembler and F-16 projection welder. In 1979, he moved into production control scheduler working with supply management, marketing and engineering. He found his most recent role as module leader in October 1996. He worked in various departments including welding, machining, heat treat, assembly and sheet metal in the east factory and front-end equipment and sheet metal. David retired in 2009.
He was a former member of the Moline Elks Lodge. He enjoyed going to the YMCA to work out as well as doing home improvements. He loved spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother, Eleanor Maguire of Geneseo; daughter, Megan (Cade) Hooker of Pontotoc, Miss., and their children, Sophie, Ella Kate and Maggie; brother, Matthew (Valerie) Maguire of Galesburg; nephew, Dusty Maguire of Galesburg; uncle and aunt, Ralph (Joan) Maguire of Geneseo and two cousins, Lori Todd and Michael Maguire. He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents and a cousin, Mark.
