Donald E. “Don” Mason, 77, of Geneseo, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Wednesday, Sept. 11 at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Donald Mason Memorial Fund.
He was born on April 11, 1936, the son of Fred T. and Ruby (Hadley) Mason. He attended Atkinson High School. He married Lois Boehm on June 24, 1956, in Geneseo. She died in 2001. Don later married Marilyn Martins on Aug. 15, 2002, in Branson, Mo. He was a lifetime farmer in rural Atkinson and continued to help others with farming after he retired. Don served in the United States National Guard, he had been a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo and the Atkinson Kiwanis. He enjoyed gardening and loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; three daughters, Lu (Mark) Murphy of Atkinson, Deb (Tim) Laleman of Geneseo and Christine (John) Bolger of Hahira, Ga.; two sons, Ronald (Michelle) Mason of Jupiter Farms, Fla.; and Randy Mason of Tallahassee, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Nick (Lisa) Murphy, Bob (Emily) Murphy, Bridget (Kyle) Peters, Melissa (Brad) Clendenin, Shawn Laleman, Jennifer Mason and Brian Mason; three great grandchildren, Carson, Harper and Kendall; and brother, Frederick R. Mason of Port Byron. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lois and sister, June Mason.
