Karen Lynne Palmgren, 58, of Geneseo, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care, Geneseo. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. As per Karen’s request, cremation rites have been accorded and private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Geneseo Humane Society.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Helen (Achenbach) Wendhausen. She graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1973 and from Scott Community College in 1987 with a degree in secretarial education. She married Charles Palmgren on Oct. 22, 2005, in Geneseo. She was the office manager for Vera French Mental Health, Terrace Ridge Office from which she retired in 2010.
She was a certified Master Gardener through the University of Illinois and an active garden club member. She loved working in the yard and enjoyed making jewelry, stained glass crafting, cooking and baking. She enjoyed her weekly get togethers with the Margarita Girls. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; son Eric Farnum of Davenport; step-son, Brad (Megan) Palmgren of Davenport; daughter, Sarah Farnum, East Moline; step-daughter, Lynn Palmgren of Chicago; granddaughter, Megan Farnum; step granddaughter, Audrey Palmgren; two brothers, Richard (Diane) Wendhausen and Barry (Brenda) Wendhausen. She was preceded in death by her parents.
