Margaret Loraine Perkins, 82, of Atkinson, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Vandemore Funeral Homes, Atkinson is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be left to the Margaret Perkins Memorial Fund.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1931, in Ulah, the daughter of Lacy and Ivy (Clark) Smith. She was married to Marvin Wexell. She later married John B. Perkins on April 1, 1971, in Rock Island. She worked as a care giver at Galesburg Research Hospital and then later at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. She enjoyed gardening, cross stich and sewing.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Wexell of Sparks, Nev., and August (Michelle) Perkins of Atkinson; a daughter, Jo (John) Mapes of Atkinson; two step sons, Larry (Vickie) Perkins of Galva and Steve (Sue) Perkins of Moline; a step daughter-in-law, Arlene Perkins; five grandchildren, Beth Wexell, Steven Wexell, Brice Heilman, Tucker Mapes and Kylee Perkins; four great grandchildren, Megan Stancomb, Haley Ekin, and Hudson and Knox Heilman; and one great grandchild, Maddie Dillbeck. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sons, Ray Wexell and Billy Perkins; one step son, John W. Perkins; and brothers, Kenny and Bill Smith.
