Arthur L. Glazier, 79, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo. A funeral service celebrating his life was held Friday, Sept. 13 at Vandemore Funeral Homes Ltd., Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors were accorded by the Don Cherry VFW No. 5083. A visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 12 at the funeral home, where a Loyal Order of the Moose service was conducted. Memorials may be directed to the Art Glazier Memorial Fund.
He was born on Dec. 18, 1933, in Cordova, the son of Robert and Margaret (Peck) Glazier. He graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1952. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. He married Goldie Hepker in 1957. He later married Roberta I. Weber Hancock in 1980 in Geneseo. Art had been employed for 32 years at International Harvester Works, retiring in 1988. After retiring, he drove school bus for Pinks' Bus Service in Geneseo for 20 years.
Art was a member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990 and received his Moose Pilgrim Degree. He also was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Posts. Art was very instrumental in starting the Geneseo and Henry County Civil Defense Units and was active with both groups for 30 years. He enjoyed camping, bingo and cards. Art enjoyed helping friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta; son, Jim (Michelle) Glazier of Geneseo; step son, Steve (Cindy) Hancock of Geneseo; two step daughters, Linda Gross of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Deb (Randy) Gildersleeve of Payson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kyle and Jake Glazier; Kelsey, Keara and Kyley Gross; Courtney (Cody) Mighell; Jacob Hancock; and Heather Gildersleeve. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene and Kenny Glazier and one sister, Lois Harper.
