  • The Geneseo varsity volleyball team went 2-1 this past week, and also took third place at the Geneseo Invite over the weekend.
    Geneseo vs. Ottawa
    The Lady Leafs began conference play Sept. 17 at home against Ottawa. Geneseo lost the match in three games, but scores from the match were unavailable.
    Leading the defensive effort for Geneseo was Kaylie Piekos who came up with 11 digs and one block; while Heather Setser added nine digs and Kristen Nguyen had six.
    Jamie DeFauw and Shaina Lohman each finished with two blocks and Jordan DePauw added one.
    Kylie Gerhardt paced the offense with four aces, four kills and six assists.
    Piekos put away three kills; followed by DePauw and Lohman with two apiece; while Kylie Kelsall added six assists.
    Setser and Piekos ended the night with one ace apiece.
    Geneseo vs. Galesburg
    On Sept. 16, Geneseo traveled to Galesburg where the Lady Leafs defeated the Streaks in two games, but scores from the match were unavailable.
    DeFauw led the team with six kills and three blocks; while Gerhardt put away five kills and 11 assists.
    Piekos and Lohman each chipped in four kills; while Setser and Nguyen came up with six digs apiece.
    Kelsall finished the night with one ace and seven assists; followed by Heather Hickenbottom with four digs and two blocks; and DePauw, two blocks.
    Geneseo Invite
    Geneseo finished the 2013 Geneseo Invite in third place with a record of 3-2 Sept. 14.
    The Lady Leafs earned wins over Peoria, 25-11 and 25-13; Galena, 24-26, 25-23 and 15-5; and Hall, 25-18 and 25-12.
    Tournament stats include: Gerhardt, 10 aces, 16 kills, 30 assists, one block and three digs; Piekos, three aces, seven digs, five blocks and 18 kills; and Kelsall, six aces, 22 assists, one kill and one block. Setser, seven digs; DeFauw, one dig, 13 blocks, 25 kills and 10 aces; Nguyen, one dig; DePauw, 11 blocks; and Lohman, six blocks, one kill and three assists.
    Hickenbottom, eight aces, one block and six kills; Kamber Causemaker, three digs; Hannah Evans, one block; and Megan Dale, one kill.
    Geneseo vs. Rochelle
    The Lady Leafs took care of Rochelle in two games on the road Sept. 11, 25-12 and 26-24.
    Four Lady Leafs combined for the team’s eight kills for the night — Hickenbottom, DeFauw, DePauw and Gerhardt, all put away two kills.
    Gerhardt led the team with four assists and Kelsall ended with three.
    Leading the way at the service line was Kelsall serving up four aces; followed by Piekos and DeFauw with one ace each.
    Setser came up with two digs in the back row to pace the Lady Leafs; while Piekos, Causemaker and Gerhardt each had one dig. DeFauw finished the game with the team’s only block.
