N. Eugene “Gene” Sowell, 68, of Canton went to be with the Lord Monday (Sept. 23, 2013) at 9:45 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Sept. 11, 1945, in Big Rock, Tenn., to Noppie G. and Vestie (Edmonds) Sowell. He married Helen Keel on May 5, 1995. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Tina Sowell of Canton; three grandchildren, Kirk Helms, Angel Helms and Dylan Cowden, all of Canton; one great-granddaughter, Genesis Hall, also of Canton; two stepsons, Ronnie and Ricky Keel, both of Clarksville, Tenn.; three sisters, Billie (Billy) DeFord of Macomb, Mary (Walter) Burdick of Evansville, Ind., and Louise Wyatt of Clarksville, Tenn.; his caregiver, Bobbie Jo Munson; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his foster parents; two brothers, Wesley and Lucian Sowell; and one sister, Emmie Stack.
He was loved by all who knew him; he was such a wonderful and kind man. He loved his family with all his heart. He was of the Baptist faith and had a great love and dedication to his Lord and Savior.
Gene worked in maintenance, at one time at the Canton High School.
A memorial service for Gene will be Thursday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to help his family with burial expenses in care of CEFCU.
Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton was in charge of arrangements.
