  • Behind three touchdowns and 227 yards from senior Rayce Singbush, the Green Machine bounced back from a loss the week before in a big way as Geneseo cruised to a 56-0 shut out of Dixon in the opening game of the NIB 12 schedule Sept. 27.
“I thought we did some good things tonight and got better at some things,” said head coach Larry Johnsen. “Offensively, I thought we were explosive.”
After Dixon was able to move the ball on the Green Machine in the Dukes’ first series, but came up empty, it was all Geneseo from then out.
Rayce Singbush put the Green Machine on the board with the first score of the night on a 60-yard run, and Kevin Wolak added the PAT kick for the 7-0 lead.
Brandon Mizlo added Geneseo’s second TD of the night on a 9-yard run, and Wolak split the uprights for the 14-0 advantage after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Singbush ran loose on the Dukes as he ran the ball in from 28 yards out, and then sprinted downfield 81 yards for his third TD of the night. Wolak added both PATs to give Geneseo the 28-0 lead.
Mizlo busted out a 36-yard run into the end zone in the second quarter, and Wolak added the PAT. Luke Snyder connected with Drew Himmelman in the end zone for a 3-yard TD reception with 40 seconds left in the half to put Geneseo up 42-0 at the break.
“There is something about this place, no matter what, we always have a tussle, but credit goes to our guys in getting a shut out,” said Johnsen.
Geneseo was held scoreless in the third quarter, while the team’s defense continued to keep the Dukes out of the end zone.
The Green Machine tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to cap off the victory.
Tyler Mackey hit Michael Haugse for an 8-yard TD reception; while Jacob Eaker ran the ball into the end zone on a 3-yard run. Wolak added the PAT kicks on both scores.
“We have high expectations (for our bench),” said Johnsen. “It is about getting reps, and they got two scores. They make sure we get better.”
The Geneseo offense ran for 409 yards Friday night led by Singbush with 227 yards on nine carries.
Mizlo chipped in 60 rushing yards on six touches; while Snyder ran for 36 yards on five carries.
Zach Denney ran the ball once for 27 yards; followed by Jordan Schnowske with 19 yards on five carries and Eaker with two carries for 17 yards.
Page 2 of 2 - Ryan Pitra added 9 yards on one carry; while Ryan Webster had one for 6 yards; Joey Medina, 5 yards on two carries; and Scott Schulte, 3 yards on two carries.
Snyder passed three times for 36 yards; while Mackey also saw action in the quarterback position and hit Haugse for a touchdown.
Snyder and Mackey combined to hit Himmelman, Jacob VanDoren, Jordan Mielke and Haugse.
Geneseo’s defense held Dixon to only 140 rushing yards and 66 passing yards.
Mackey and Cooper Humphries both jumped in front of two Dixon passes for the interception.
The Green Machine (4-1 overall and 1-0 in the NIB 12) will host Ottawa tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Bob Reade Field.
