John Heywood’s assertion that “the happy man’s without a shirt” makes sense for a man with a closet full of hair shirts, but Heywood only owned regular shirts.   I’m probably misreading the author, dead now for 433 years.      The loss of wealth is loss of dirt,    As sages in all times assert;    The happy man's without a shirt.                         John Heywood 1497-1580   Springhouse P.
