Halloween is quickly approaching, but my mind is racing ahead to Christmas. While I do think that retailers put out displays much too early, I have to admit that I secretly like to see what is new to decorate for Christmas.

I start decorating my home the first weekend of November. I never have Thanksgiving at my house and since I live alone, I can get to work early. There is just something about Christmas that implies a little bit of romance and magic. I love all the trees decorated in various themes and the rich colors and sparkle. Upon seeing a snow globe, I immediately turn into a five year old and have to shake it to see the snow fall. Christmas seems to touch that inner child in us all that never truly grows up.

While I enjoy all the fancy decorations at retail stores, I can’t help but adore simple decorations that you can make yourself without much effort. Pine cone wreaths are among my favorites. I also swoon over handmade Christmas ornaments that have old-fashion charm. Popcorn garland and gingerbread men ornaments just remind me of home. The simple country girl in me loves plaid ribbon tied in big fluffy bows or a simple package wrapped in string.

Then however, I also have another side to me too. The frou-frou me that loves all thing sparkly and GLAM! To see mercury glass lit up with white lights, surrounded with yards and yards of tulle just drives me wild! Color, texture, scents, and low lights at the holiday make a home sing with joy.

No matter what your Christmas decorating style is this season…revel in it and make your space uniquely yours.
