On the links this past week, the Geneseo boys’ golf team sent two golfers on to sectional competition and also earned a conference championship.
Geneseo’s Billy Converse and Eric Dellett punched their tickets to the IHSA Sectional Meet with their finishes at the Galesburg Regional Oct. 8.
“I think we were hoping for a little lower scores, but the greens were definitely quick, and I was watching some of the best players in the field struggle with the speed on the greens,” said head coach Darren Hall. “Our back nine scores were pretty good, but we just got off to a bad start.”
Converse, who advances to sectionals for the fourth time, finished the day with an 80 for 12th-place overall (42, 38); while Eric Dellett, who makes his first trip to sectionals, shot an 82 for 20th place (42, 40).
“Billy didn’t lose his composure. He knew there would be tough holes and he would have to maintain his composure and he did that,” said Hall. “I am not surprised by Eric at all because if you look at his 18-hole scores he has been incredibly consistent throughout the year.”
Geneseo finished sixth overall as a team with a 335.
Ryan Ford came in 27th with an 85 (46, 39); followed by Kevin Wolak, 34th with an 88 (48, 40).
Brian Bozzer shot a 91 (42, 49) for 40th place, and Austin Jump finished in 44th with a 95 (53, 42).

Ford led the Geneseo squad with a 37; followed by Jump, 40; Marshall Rice, 42; Wyatt Wade, 43; Trace Johnson, 45; and Nathan Lauritzen, 46.
Alex Sottos led the Geneseo White team with a 44; followed by Grant Chaney, 48; Jordan Anderson, 50; Dylan Pardoe, 52; Christos Andrios, 58; and Alex Williams, 59.
Geneseo at NIB 12 Conference Meet
With a combination of the regular season and the conference tournament, the Leaf golfers were crowned conference champions of the West division.
Geneseo finished the Oct. 2 conference meet in fifth place overall and second in the West division with a score of 324.
“I was really excited,” said Hall. “We haven’t won conference since I have been here, so that is a good indicator it has been a successful season. When you combine dual meets and conference, it shows we have been consistent all year round and I am really pleased with that.”
Dellett led the team with a fourth overall finish with a 76, which was the low score for the West division.
Page 2 of 2 - Ford finished 18th overall and fifth in the West Division with an 81; while Bozzer recorded an 83.
Converse and Jump each carded 84s; followed by Wolak with an 87.
The Geneseo freshman/sophomore squad also claimed the conference title in the West Division and finished fourth overall with a 371.
Wyatt Wade and Marshall Rice tied for 10th place as both golfers recorded 90s.
Trace Johnson shot a 97 for the day; followed by Nathan Lauritzen with a 94; Dylan Pardoe, a 102 and Jordan Anderson, a 103.
Converse and Dellett will compete in the Metamora Sectional Oct. 14 at Metamora Fields.
“(Billy and Eric) will have to control their nerves and have to make sure they maintain their composure,” said Hall. “They can make an error here or there, but as long as they don’t make those big numbers, they will be OK. They have been awfully consistent all year, which is a real benefit.”
