  • Geneseo's McDonalds restaurant is undergoing a renovation.
"The exterior will have a total new contemporary look," said owner/operator Roger Muselman. "The key attributes of this design (will be) the clean and modern facade and welcoming entry, which are intended to contrast with the base building through earth-tone colors and materials."
Muselman said the interior of the restaurant also will be "totally renovated" with contemporary LED lighting and new seating added.
The interior will feature "subtle colors for a very modern and inviting look," he said.
"We are going to incorporate some decor screens and wall murals with images of Geneseo in the dining area," added Muselman.
"Additional changes that will be seen will be a patio, power outlets that also will have a USB connection, a new front counter system with a digital menu board and beautiful bathrooms," he noted.
The tall McDonalds sign currently located just south of the building will be removed.
"It will be taken down since it can't be seen driving in either direction on I-80," said Muselman. "New signage for the drive-thru also is being added to help with better visibility and more efficient order taking."
Renovation work at the Geneseo McDonalds started on Sept. 30 and is expected to be finished in early December.
The Geneseo McDonalds opened in 1993. The restaurant was damaged in an August 2004 fire. Following which, the building underwent a "total rebuild" and was re-opened in March of 2005, said Muselman.
Throughout the renovation process, Muselman said, "We will do everything we can to keep either the drive-thru or dining room open," but added, "With all of the changes to signage, interior and exterior finishes, tile work and general construction, there will be some frustrating times for both the customers and employees."
However, once the project is finished, the building will have an "inviting new look" said Muselman. "We hope the customers' dining and drive-thru experience will improve."
