RAPID CITY. S.D. — David Shannon Boyd, 80, passed away Nov. 11, 2013 at Golden Living Prairie Hills. Cha bhithiah a leithid ami riamh.
David was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Lewistown to Mose and Sue (Jackson) Boyd. He attended Knox College in Galesburg and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduation, Dave served in the U.S. Army. He married Sherry Leigh Churchill and they had three children, Jeffrey David, Julie Ann and Shannon Mary.
David became a partner in the family business known as The Boyd Agency, which later became Lewistown Savings and Loan. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a real estate loan officer at the Farmers State Bank in Lewistown. After retirement, David moved to Houston, Texas, with his wife and her family. Due to his failing health, he moved to South Dakota to be near his daughter Shannon and her family.
David was a very talented artist, bagpipe player, furniture crafter, boat builder and photographer. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and telling stories. He was quite the storyteller and fisherman, however much couldn’t be said for his golf game.
David was a huge Detroit Lions fan. Go Lions! David was also very proud of his Scottish ancestry and family history.
He is survived by his two daughters, Julie Boyd and Shannon (Boyd) Caperton; stepchildren Rob Herbert, Melissa (Herbert) Schmidt, Debbie (Herbert) Herriford, Jamie Herbert and Bill Herbert; grandchildren Jared Ellenwood, Isaac Billue, Kelly Merrell, Claire Caperton, Justin and Jared Herriford, Bobby Herbert, Isabel and Elise Herbert; and several great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey; his two brothers, Jack and Joe; and his parents.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date in Lewistown.
