The Geneseo School District has earned the SchoolSearch 2013 Bright Star Award for educational excellence.
Only 91 Illinois School Districts, out of 866 total are selected to receive this honor.
The award criteria are based on districts whose students' academic performance rank in the upper one-third of Illinois school districts, but whose expenditure per pupil ranks in the lower one-fourth of Illinois school districts.
SchoolSearch recipients are recognized for their ability to achieve student success in spite of growing funding issues. The Geneseo School District was the only district in the immediate area to receive the designation at both the elementary and high school levels.
"Our school board, staff and administration work very hard to provide the highest level educational experience we can, while using our limited resources wisely," said Geneseo superintendent Scott Kuffel. "To be recognized for this achievement validates those efforts."
