Bobby Gene Spottsville of Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Shawneetown, passed away Oct. 27, 2013.
He was born Sept. 7, 1937, to Mansford and Helen Spottsville during the time of the Ohio River flood in Shawneetown. He grew up with his Uncle Ivory and Aunt Ruebena Newsom in Shawneetown. He demonstrated outstanding basketball skills in leading his high school team to their first and only National Championship game.
Following graduation from high school Bobby served in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division and served one tour in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Davis Spottsville of 51 years; three children, Sandra Davis (Stanley) of Grovetown, Ga., Mashell Morrow (Alexander) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bobbie Allen Spottsville of Fayetteville, N.C.; second mother, Ruebena Newsom of Shawneetown; two grandchildren, Sikia Davis and Tamisha Davis; one great-grandchild, Zoe Bey; two brothers, Jimmy Spaulding, Joe Spaulding; and a cousin, Garrison Newsom (Vera) of Chicago; and numerous relatives and friends.
Services were held at the Wiseman Mortuary Chapel, 431 Cumberland St., Fayetteville, N.C. The Rev. L. D. Davis Sr. led the service.
The burial with full military honors was held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Cumberland Memorial Gardens Raeford Road, Fayetteville, N.C. Professional services were provided by the Dafford Funeral Home Inc. of North Carolina.
